Health Reform
The Obama Administration and the 111th Congress are considering initiatives to reform the nation’s healthcare system to address the coverage crisis that is impacting over 46 million uninsured Americans. As Congress and the Administration work to extend access to affordable and high quality health care, this coverage must include access to appropriate psychiatric treatment for our patients and their families in a full continuum of care.
APA POSITION: The Board of Trustees and the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association have approved the following principles for health care reform and the practice of psychiatry. The APA urges Congress and the Administration to utilize these principles as we develop a workable health reform agenda for the 21st Century.
